Malletech marimbas are the brainchild of marimba virtuoso Leigh Howard Stevens. The instruments are made with ultra-wide bass bars and tuneable round resonators which culminate in a versatility of tone, resonance and response from the highest quality Honduras Rosewood bars. They are known throughout the world as the professional instrument of choice. The patented tuning resonator stops that are fitted to each note allows you to tailor your marimba to provide the best possible response and resonance in any room, temperature or humidity. The concert instruments also feature the immaculately finished solid oak endboards and rails. Add to this the lifetime durability of the brass resonators (and nuts and bolts) coupled with the guaranteed rattle free frames and you have an impressive instrument indeed. The marimbas come in 4.3, 4 and 5 (The Grand Imperial) octave ranges. Previously all marimbas came with solid oak ends and brass resonators which offer a superior sound and look great, but can be difficult to transport regularly due to their weight. To assist the travel conscious Marimbist, Malletech has recently released the more portable, lightweight Roadsters, which feature the exact same bars as the oak models, but come with aluminium resonators. The Standard Roadster has a wood frame that is identical to the oak models, but with a black lacquer finish, while the Ultralight Roadster replaces everything except the bar rails with aluminium tubing. According to Malletech, the Roadsters have 95% of the sound of the brass-resonated instruments with up to 50% weight saving, and are even more sturdy than other brands concert models. |
