Wrist Twisters is a text designed to teach technical precision, rhythmic accuracy, and expression. Most of the exercises are two- to four-bar phrases or motives and are presented with different sticking combinations. The text is divided into chapters that provide brief, focal discussions or areas of snare drumming that need attention (e.g., right hand, left hand, fulcrum points, stroke and preparation, accents, and shaping a line). The exercises cover single strokes, flams, rolls, drags, and ruffs. The book closes with five advanced etudes. Included with the text is a discography that covers recordings and performances. There is also a CD that demonstrates shape, expression, and colour, which is the purpose of this excellent text. All students would benefit from this collection.
