Studio 49 Timpani - 40cm Hand Tuned with Calf Head: each

On normal timpani the tension screws raise the pitch by turning clockwise and lower it by turning counter clockwise. When tuning, alternate across the head from one side to the other, rather than proceeding to the adjacent tension screw. This helps equal tension and pitch for the entire head.
