Samba Batucada: each Composer: Sponsel
The Samba Batucada was written for the percussion ensemble at Frankfurt Music Academy. The piece follows traditional playing models in terms of style, which also applies to its three- movement structure. Performers are not bound to exact tempo indications. Rather, the tempo should be chosen so that the piece can be mastered reliably and with supreme ease. Characters and moods are indicated in the form of suggestions and should be maintained as shown (part A =.fast / part B = slow, calm / part C = very fast). The note values and phrasing should be performed in a relaxed manner, i. e. not mathematically exact in the classic style, so as to meet the character of music from Brazil. The performers are free to position the players as desired - semi-circles or full circles are recommended set- ups, in which the Surdos (players 6 and 7) and Repenique (player 5) perform a central role.
