Choose Your Own Adventure - MSO 2015: each
Composer: George David
Choose Your Own Adventure was composed for the 2015 Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Snare Drum Award, by David George.
The ideas behind the piece stem not only from the books of the same name, but also from the thought that while learning percussion we should keep all possible career options open. Each groove is setup and built upon and just as quickly removed. The only linking factor is a two-note/one-rest motif that comes and goes throughout the work.
The piece is a through-composed work of four movements to be performed in any order of the player's choosing. The performance order should be random - absolutely do not simply perform the movements in the order you received them. I suggest you draw the names out of a hat! Whatever possible, a smooth transition between each movement should be made with little or no gap (certainly no long silences). Each movement is to be played once, taking the 'Option to continue..' in all but the last.
While every effort have been made to give clear and concise direction in terms of dynamics and tempi, etc, take these markings with a grain of salt.
This is your piece and your performance - there is no 'right' answer - just start at the beginning and when you get to the end, stop.
Piece includes 4 movement sheets, key/legend sheet, suggestions for choice of sticks and setup, and performance notes.
