An Uchiwa Daiko is a Japanese hand drum, shaped like a fan, characterized by its single drumhead and lack of a sound box. It is often used in Buddhist rituals and is known for its loud sound. The 'uchiwa' part of the name translates to 'fan' in Japanese, referring to its distinctive shape.

Shape and Structure:
The Uchiwa Daiko has a flat, fan-like shape with a handle for easy playing while walking, standing, or sitting. It's made of natural wood with a genuine cowhide drumhead.

Sound:
It produces a loud sound, with larger sizes generally producing louder sounds.

Playing:
The player holds the handle with one hand and strikes the drumhead with a bachi (a drumstick) held in the other hand.

Origin and Use:
Originally, the Uchiwa Daiko was a ritual article used in Buddhism. Today, it is also used in various taiko performances and ensembles.
