Optimum 75cm Hiradaiko w/Stand: each

Includes:

  • Hiradaiko Drum
  • Mounting Stand
  • Bachi Sticks

A Hira Daiko is a type of Japanese taiko drum, meaning 'flat drum' in Japanese, characterised by its short, flat body. Unlike the more common Nagado Daiko (long drum), the Hira Daiko's head diameter is larger than its body length. This design results in a lighter, higher-pitched sound compared to a Nagado Daiko of the same diameter, making it often used in ensembles alongside Shime Daiko for festival accompaniment (Ohayashi).

Shape:
The Hira Daiko has a short, flat body, with the drumhead diameter exceeding the body's length.

Sound:
Due to its shorter body, a Hira Daiko produces a lighter, higher-pitched sound than a Nagado Daiko of the same diameter.

Use:
Hira Daikos are frequently used in Ohayashi (festival accompaniment) alongside Shime Daiko, or Gaku Daiko for gagaku performances.

Construction:
They are constructed in a similar way to Nagado Daiko, meaning their heads are nailed onto the wooden body.
